Every key on every layer of your MinimalPad is configurable in Studio. You can change what a key does in under a minute, test it immediately, and save when you’re happy — no firmware rebuild or reflash required.

Steps to remap a key

1

Connect your MinimalPad to Studio

Open Studio and connect your device over USB or Bluetooth. See Connect via USB if you need help. Once the connection indicator turns green, you’re ready to edit.
2

Select the layer you want to edit

Click the layer tab at the top of the interface for the layer you want to change. The grid updates to show that layer’s current assignments.
3

Click the key you want to change

Click any key in the 4×4 grid — or click the encoder press button — to open the action picker for that key position.
4

Choose a category or search

The action picker opens with six category tiles and a search bar:
  • Shortcut — press multiple keys together (e.g. Cmd+C, Ctrl+Shift+Left)
  • Single key — a single letter, number, arrow, symbol, or function key
  • Media & apps — playback, volume, brightness, browser, and app controls
  • Layers — hold, toggle, or switch to another layer (Momentary, Layer-Tap, Toggle, and more)
  • Device controls — Bluetooth profiles, RGB lighting, USB output, and system actions
  • Advanced — dual-action behaviors, sticky keys, firmware macros, and every ZMK behavior compiled into your firmware
Use the search bar to find an action by name — try “tap hold”, “brightness”, or “Bluetooth”.
5

Configure the action

After selecting a category and behavior, configure its parameters. For example: choose which key to send, which layer to target, which Bluetooth profile to use, or which RGB adjustment to apply. Some behaviors require no additional settings.
6

Click Assign to apply

Click Assign to key at the bottom of the picker. Studio sends the change to your device immediately. The key label on the grid updates to reflect the new assignment.
7

Save your changes

Click the Save button (floppy disk icon) in the connection bar at the bottom of the screen. This writes the change to your device’s flash memory so it persists after disconnecting or powering off.
Test the key immediately after clicking Assign — before saving. If it doesn’t behave as expected, adjust the parameters or try a different behavior. Only save once you’re satisfied.
If you disconnect or lose connection before clicking Save, any unsaved changes are lost. The device reverts to its last saved configuration.
