In MinimalPad Studio, assigning a key and saving your changes are two separate steps. A change sent to the device is active immediately but is only permanent once you explicitly save it to flash. If your MinimalPad reverted to a previous configuration after disconnecting or powering off, one of the steps below was likely missed.

Step 1 — Did you save?

Clicking Assign sends the change to the device and makes it active right away, but it does not write the change to flash memory. To make changes permanent, you must also click the Save button (the floppy disk icon) before disconnecting. If the Save button is not visible, your changes were already written — or there were no pending changes to save.

Step 2 — Was the device still connected when you saved?

If you disconnected the MinimalPad before clicking Save, the pending changes were held only in memory and are now lost. You will need to reconnect and reapply the changes.

Step 3 — Reconnect and retry

1

Connect MinimalPad to Studio

Plug in your MinimalPad and open https://studio.minimalmacropad.com/. Connect using USB or Bluetooth. See the USB connection guide if needed.
2

Reapply your key changes

Navigate to the key or layer you want to configure and make your assignments again.
3

Click Assign for each change

For each key you modify, confirm the change by clicking Assign. The key should update immediately on the device.
4

Click Save before disconnecting

Once all changes are assigned, click the Save button (floppy disk icon) to write everything to flash. Do not disconnect until the save confirmation appears.

Step 4 — Verify the save completed

After saving, the Save button should disappear and a checkmark or confirmation indicator should appear, showing that all changes have been written to flash. Only disconnect after you see this confirmation.
If changes keep reverting even after you save correctly, the device’s flash memory may be corrupted. Try reflashing the minimalpad_with_studio firmware to restore the device to a clean state, then reconfigure your keys. See the firmware installation guide for instructions.
