The Shortcut category in MinimalPad Studio lets you trigger multi-key combinations — like Cmd+C, Ctrl+Z, or Ctrl+Shift+T — with a single key press. Instead of stretching across your keyboard, you put the combination on one key and keep your hands on your work.

Assign a shortcut

1

Open Studio and connect your MinimalPad

Go to studio.minimalmacropad.com in Chrome or Edge, then connect via USB or Bluetooth.
2

Click the key you want to assign

Click any key on the on-screen layout. The action picker opens on the right.
3

Choose the Shortcut category

Select Shortcut from the action category picker.
4

Build or record your shortcut

Either:
  • Record: press the key combination on your keyboard and Studio captures it automatically, or
  • Build manually: check the modifier boxes (Ctrl, Shift, Alt/Option, Cmd/Win) and select the base key from the list.
5

Click Assign

The action is applied to the key immediately so you can test it right away.
6

Save your changes

Click Save to write the assignment to your MinimalPad’s flash memory. Saved keymaps persist across reboots and reconnects.

Available modifier keys

You can combine any of these modifiers with a base key:
  • Ctrl — Control
  • Shift — Shift
  • Alt / Option — Alt on Windows and Linux; Option on macOS
  • Cmd / Win (GUI) — Command on macOS; Windows key on Windows

macOS vs. Windows and Linux

Most shortcuts use different modifier keys depending on your operating system.
macOS uses Cmd (the GUI key) for most shortcuts, while Windows and Linux use Ctrl. A shortcut that works on your Mac may produce no action on a Windows machine, and vice versa. If you switch between operating systems, consider creating a dedicated layer for each one.
Create a dedicated layer for each computer or OS you use regularly. Assign a layer-switch key on your base layer, then fill each layer with shortcuts tuned for that system. See Layers for how to set this up.
